Spaced repetition for the MRCEM Primary

A tuned SM-2 engine, the method behind the best flashcard apps, built into every question. What you miss comes back today. What you know graduates and leaves your revision. You don't make flashcards; you just clear today's revision.

When each question comes back

  1. Wrong

    Today

    Back in today's revision

  2. Hard

    1 day

You got it, but it was hard

  3. Medium

    3 days

You got it with some thought

  4. Right in revision

    Graduates

    You've learnt it: done

  5. Easy

    Graduates

    You knew it cold: done

Why it matters for the MRCEM Primary

The Primary covers six subjects in 180 questions. Over six months of study it is easy to forget the brachial plexus by the time you reach renal physiology.

Spaced repetition fixes that. Instead of re-reading everything, you see each question again just before you would forget it. The questions you find hard keep coming back, at 1 or 3 days, until you get them right in revision; then they graduate.

It works with the 20-a-day plan: do your new questions, then clear the questions due today. Your Progress page shows how many are due.

What you get with MRCEMStat

Questions

What is spaced repetition?
Spaced repetition means seeing a fact again just before you are likely to forget it, at longer and longer gaps. It is one of the best-studied ways to make learning last.
How does spaced repetition work on MRCEMStat?
It uses a tuned SM-2 algorithm, the method behind most flashcard apps. A question you get wrong comes back the same day. When you get one right, you rate it Hard (back in 1 day), Medium (back in 3 days) or Easy (graduated). Get it right in your revision and it graduates too. Graduated questions leave your revision for good, so it only holds what you still need to learn.
Can a graduated question come back?
Not on its own. If you meet it again in practice and get it wrong, it goes back into today's revision and starts again.
Do I have to make flashcards?
No. MRCEMStat builds your revision for you from the questions you miss. There is nothing to set up.
Where do I find today's revision?
On the Practice page, choose the Due pool. Your Progress page also shows how many questions are due today.
